Learn To Fly, Flight Training

The Airline Cadets Australia Ab-Initio course takes successful cadidates with little or no previous flying experience, provides them with 12 months of intense, professional training prior to them graduating as First Officers flying turbo-prop aircraft with large charter or regional airline operators.

Ab-Initio Pilot Training Program

The Ab-Initio course is based on the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) 150 hour integrated Commercial Pilot License (CPL) and the Multi Engine Command Instrument Rating (MECIR).

The first part of the training program focusses on developing your general flying skills, culminating in your First Solo and General Flying Progress Test (GFPT) assessment flights.

From there you then move on to navigation training that is required as part of the Private Pilot License (PPL).

After passing your PPL you will move onto the CPL and MECIR phases of training. After passing your CPL flight test you will then complete training for your MECIR.

In addition to the practical flying training outlined above, the ACA course includes the following theory training:

  • Basic Aeronautical Knowledge *
  • PPL Theory *
  • CPL Theory *
    • Topics covered in the CPL theory syllabus include:
      • Aerodynamics (CADA)
      • Navigation (CNAV)
      • Aircraft Performance & Loading (CFPA)
      • Aircraft General Knowledge (CAGK)
      • Human Factors (CHUF)
      • Air Law (CALW), and;
      • Meteorology (CMET)

  • Instrument Rating theory (IREX)

NOTE: The above theory syllabuses are all self study assisted with briefs provided by the Airline Academy of Australia Archerfield Instructors.

  • ATPL Theory
    • Topics covered in the ATPL theory syllabus include:
      • Aerodynamics (AADY)
      • Navigation (ANAV)
      • Flight Planning (AFPA)
      • Aircraft Systems (ASYS)
      • Human Factors (AHUF)
      • Air Law (AALW), and;
      • Meteorology (AMET)

Note: Theory modules marked with a * are not included in the advanced course because it is assumed that the holder of a CPL has already completed this training.

Details of the Theory Modules

BAK

The Basic Aeronautical Knowledge module teaches pilots thebasic concepts behind aerodynamics and flight. Once a pilot has completed their BAK they can undertake the GFPT.

PPL

The Private Pilot Licence (PPL) theory module introduces more complex theoretical concepts behind flight and aircraft operations. A pilot must have a PPL theory pass to sit a PPL light test.

CPL

The Commercial Pilot Licence (CPL) theory module introduces commercial theoretical concepts. A pilot must have a CPL theory pass before sitting the CPL flight test.

Study for all CPL exams is completed using self-study techniques from textbooks supplied by Airline Cadets Australia training.

ATPL

The Airline Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL) theory module is the most challenging section of the Airline Cadets Australia program.

The ATPL syllabus consists of seven (7) theory subjects. The subjects deal with of the operation of airline aircraft. At Airline Cadets Australia you will self-study for three of these whilst you are completing your CPL and MECIR training (AHUF, AMET, and AALW). The remaining subjects (ANAV, ASYS, AADY, and AFPA) are taught over a five (5) week period on a live-in ground school provided by Advanced Flight Theory (AFT).

IREX

The Instrument Rating Exam (IREX) module teaches the pilot the various regulations governing the Instrument Flight Rules (IFR). Pilots must complete the IREX before attempting their MECIR flight test.

Advanced Pilot Training Program

The Airline Cadets Australia advanced course takes selected candidates who already hold a CPL and provides them with further Nav Training and instrument rating before graduating at First Officers flying turbo-prop aircraft with larger charter operators or some Regional Airlines.

We offer Advanced Course based on the seasonal demands made by our airline clients and Charter operators.

NOTE:
If you have already completed a significant amount of pilot training (e.g. you hold a PPL and significant further experience) then we can also offer you a tailored CPL/Advanced course that will allow you to gain your CPL and then complete our advanced course.

Advanced Pilot Training Program

The Advanced Course requires a Revalidation and successful pass of a Commercial flight test with Mr Peter Bryant our independent testing officer prior to acceptance on course. The cost of this flight, the aircraft hire and the testing fee is the responsibility of the applicant. This must be done prior to commencement on course but after the selection process has been completed and applicant accepted pending this retest

Once this retest is passed at the required level, you will then commence training with some Navigation Flights prior to commencing the instrument rating and multi-command endorsement on the Be76 Duchess.

In addition to the training provided for the CPL and CIR qualifications, Airline Cadets Australia also provides the following specialised training that is required in order for you to work as a First Officer with a regional airline or Charter operator.

  • Human factors and Crew Resource Management (CRM) training
  • Multi-crew familiarisation course (MCC)
  • Emergency procedure training, including life raft drills
  • Dangerous goods awareness training
  • Turbine aircraft ground school training*
  • Turbine aircraft type endorsement*
*Costs will be dependant on the aircraft type for endorsement

HUMAN FACTORS TRAINING &
CREW RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Almost all airline operations are crewed by two or more pilots. The way in which the crew interacts with each other as they operate the aircraft plays a vital role in the efficient and safe operation of the aircraft. Because of this, Airline Cadets Australia provides Human Factors training and an introductory Crew Resource Management (CRM) course to teach important skills in communication and teamwork. CRM is considered a vital tool in airline safety management and is applied practically in the multi-crew familiarisation course.

MULTI CREW FAMILIARISATION COURSE (MCC)

All trainees undertake multi crew familiarisation training prior to commencing employment as First Officers on turbo-prop aircraft. This training aims to familiarise the trainee in operating as part of a multi crew cockpit, provides an opportunity to put the CRM theory into practice, and also introduces specific airline SOPs and flight techniques. Our Multi Crew Training is specifically designed to bridge the gap between low time single pilot environment and the high performance multi crew environment. The training is undertaken by highly qualified consultants using a glass cockpit airline trainer based upon 737 NG. The Multi Crew course training is conducted at an Independent Training Facility on the Airline Academy of Australia Archerfield.

EMERGENCY PROCEDURES TRAINING

Pilots who operate aircraft on charter and Regular Public Transport (RPT) operations are required to complete a training in emergency procedures every 12 months. At Airline Cadets Australia we conduct this training course, including life-jacket and life-raft training during the latter stages of the CPL and CIR training.

DANGEROUS GOODS AWARENESS TRAINING

It is a regulatory requirement that all flight crew who carry passengers or cargo on charter and RPT operations complete a Dangerous Goods Awareness training course every 2 years.
At Airline Cadets Australia we provide you with a correspondence course in the latter part of your CPL and CIR training in order to meet this requirement.

TURBINE AIRCRAFT GROUND SCHOOL &
TYPE ENDORSEMENT

All Airline Cadets Australia trainees undertake a ground school and endorsement on the aircraft type they will be operating after they graduate.
